Helping you to make informed decisions on the purchase of your dream home
Howe Surveyors Ltd was setup by Johnathan Howe, a former builder with over 20+ years of construction trade experience in 2024. His time in the construction trade included actual hands-on experience of a number of related trades including bricklaying, joinery, ground works, roofing and internal finishing works. This experience included repair works to existing properties, and the construction of new builds on local small development sites that relied upon good standards of work being implemented to showcase the services that were offered by the family firm that he was part of. After working in the construction trade for over two decades he took the decision to make a career change to a profession that would utilise the experience gained in the construction industry by completing an industry recognised training diploma with SAVA, this enabled him to enter the profession at AssocRICS level, and to also provide residential valuations after gaining his VRS certification. His career started out with working for other surveying practices in the North East area, and after 3 years he made the decision to become a self employed surveyor who wanted to help advise clients with pre-purchase surveys in his area by providing a more personal bespoke level of service to his clients.
Our reports can take into consideration any plans, or concerns that you may have for any prospective property purchase. We use technology where appropriate, to ensure that we can provide accurate and relevant advice that is tailored to answer your concerns and queries, within a bespoke report that is made for you.
When you instruct us to provide a survey on your behalf we will always attempt to guide you throughout the whole process as much as we can so that you can make the right choices on your purchase, based on jargon free, and straight forward information and advice that we provide in our reports. Telephone conversations are included and offered to all clients to go through the report to explain what things mean, and what the next steps should be.
When Johnathan is not surveying properties for clients he likes to spend time with his wife, three children, and two rescue dogs (Betty and Geoff) in the countryside in and around the Bedale area. Johnathan is also a keen mountain biker, snowboarder and road cyclist who likes to keep fit and active, and this enables him to enjoy some of the stunning local area that he is happy to call home, even when it is raining!

A Level 2 Home Survey is a concise survey that is a less detailed survey than a Level 3 survey, and one that is suitable for properties up to 100 years old, has not been significantly altered since construction, is in a reasonable condition, and is of a traditional construction.
A Level 3 Home Survey is a more detailed and comprehensive level of survey that offers a greater amount of detail in defect diagnosis, offers typical repair details, and will also explain what the likely consequences will be if the defects are not repaired. The Level 3 Home Survey is suited to buildings over 100 years old that, have been significantly altered since construction, are in a poor state of repair, and or are not of traditional construction. A Level 3 Home Survey can also be offered on modern properties also, if desired. This type of survey will offer guidance on typical repair costs, where further Investigations are not required.
